What is anorexia nervosa? Anorexia nervosa mostly affects young females. About 1% of 15-30 year olds are anorexic. Anorexia nervosa is also known as slimmer's disease and people with anorexia are frightened of being overweight. They eat very little and exercise a lot to keep their weight down. If it goes unnoticed they become painfully thin but still genuinely believe they are fat. Anorexics may be secretive about what they are doing and their family not realise that their child is staving themselves.
